Chesapeake Prepares for Winter Weather: We are closely monitoring the weather and have crews ready to respond to treat and clear roads as needed. Now is a great time to prepare your family and your home by checking your emergency kit and gathering any extra supplies you might need. Also connect with your neighbors to make sure they have the supplies they need. Be sure to follow official sources for preparation and continued updates.
New Walk-In Hours for Permits/Plan Review Service Desk: The Department of Development and Permits Permit/Plan Review Service Desk, located on the second floor of City Hall, will have new hours of operation for walk-in service starting on January 24. Walk-in customer service will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be no walk-in service on Tuesdays or Thursdays, but a drop box will be available near the service desk on the second floor of City Hall for any documents that need to be delivered on those days. Permits can be submitted anytime, any day, using the eBUILD system. For assistance using eBUILD, consult the instructions and frequently asked questions, call 757-382-6018 (Option 2), or email PermitSupport@CityofChesapeake.net.
Bulk Waste Suspension: Bulk trash is temporarily suspended (effective January 18, 2022) until further notice, due to ongoing staffing shortages. The City will not accept new bulk trash collection requests during this suspension. This suspension will allow Waste Management to catch up on collection of items already at the curbside while working to hire and train new staff. All items with an existing submitted bulk trash request will be collected as soon as possible - please leave these items at the curb. Residents may transport bulk items and other eligible waste to the SPSA Greenbrier Transfer Station or SPSA Regional Landfill in Suffolk. There are no changes to brown automated bin trash collection.
