Brian Solis was appointed Deputy City Manager for Community Development in November 2021. In this role, Mr. Solis serves as a member of the City's executive leadership team and oversees the City's community development departments including Economic Development, Planning, Development and Permits, and Parks, Recreation and Tourism. He is a certified professional planner with over 28 years of leadership experience planning and implementing award-winning community development and economic vitality public and partnership programs, projects and initiatives that advance a high quality of life in Hampton Roads, Virginia.
Mr. Solis served over 22 years in various leadership roles with the City of Virginia Beach, including as Assistant to the City Manager for Special Projects, Director of the Resort Management Office, interim roles as the Director of the Strategic Growth Areas Office and co-Director of Parks and Recreation as well as Transportation Planning Manager and Planning, Design and Development Administrator. He represented the city on various regional boards, committees, and commissions. Mr. Solis makes a return to the City of Chesapeake, having formerly served as a Current Planner and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Planner from 1995 until 1999. He also spent time in the private sector as a commercial real estate manager. Mr. Solis has an extensive background in capital program administration, innovation in local government and organizational strategic planning.
Mr. Solis holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography, with an Urban and Regional Planning emphasis, from Old Dominion University. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executive Institute and LEAD Program at the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, University of Virginia. Solis is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) and has been credentialed as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate by the U.S. Green Building Council.
