Registering Your Bicycle

Autumn is a wonderful season for bike riding. Did you know you can register your bicycle with the Chesapeake Treasurer’s Office? If your bike is ever found after being stolen or misplaced, police can trace the serial number and return the bike to you. Registration is voluntary, only costs $1, and lasts as long as you own the bike. Fill out the bicycle license form online or visit any Chesapeake Treasurer’s Office location.

Bicycle Tips

Take these steps to insure a fun and safe bike ride:

  • Register your bicycle with the City of Chesapeake Treasurer's office.
  • Hold onto the handlebars at all times.
  • Always wear a helmet.
  • Always ride on the far right side of the road.
  • Ride in single file and give an audible warning to any pedestrian you pass on a sidewalk.
  • Have a light on the front of your bike when you are riding after dark and a red reflector on the back.
  • Check to be sure your brakes are working well.
  • Have a horn on your bike.

For more important bicycle safety reminders, visit the Chesapeake Police Department's Traffic Safety page.
