The Commissioner and Cans Food Drive

Help the City of Chesapeake’s Commissioner of the Revenue raise funds and donations for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore from August 1 through August 31! The Commissioners and Cans Food Drive is a statewide fundraiser sponsored by the Commissioner of the Revenue Association and the Association of Virginia Food Banks. During this fundraiser, multiple Commissioner of the Revenue offices across Virginia will partake in a friendly competition to collect the most food and funds for the food banks. Chesapeake’s office hopes to collect the most!

Did you know that 1 in 8 Virginians live with food insecurity, 8% of Virginia households are food insecure, 1 in 6 children face hunger daily, and 25% of Americans overall are food insecure? Food bank donations routinely experience a sharp decline in donations outside of the holidays, so the need for donations is especially high right now. Every donation to your local food bank makes a significant difference in the lives of others. No amount is too small.

The most needed items are monetary donations, canned meats, canned vegetables, canned fruits, peanut butter and jelly, macaroni and cheese, hearty meaty soup, pasta and sauces, cereal and oatmeal, and condiments and spices.

This fundraiser runs from August 1 through August 31, 2023. To make an online monetary donation, visit Chesapeake’s Commissioner of the Revenue’s official fundraiser site. To make monetary and food donations in person, visit the first floor of Chesapeake City Hall. Canned goods can be placed in the donation box, and sealed checks can be collected by the first floor Information Desk. Checks should be made payable to "Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia" or "FSEVA" and must include “City of Chesapeake Commissioner of the Revenue” on the memo line. Checks must be delivered by August 31.

The City of Chesapeake’s Commissioner of the Revenue thanks you greatly for your participation in this fundraiser and looks forward to helping the community!
