Carbon monoxide (CO) is an invisible, odorless, colorless gas that is created when fossil fuels like coal or gasoline burn incompletely. It can be generated in a room heater, furnace, charcoal grill, range, water heater, automobile or fireplace.

Fire Safety at Work
Fires can happen anywhere. It is important to acknowledge that, and use that knowledge to your advantage while at work. The basics to fire are simple: fire develops when three elements create a chain reaction. These elements are oxygen, fuel, and an ignition source. Fuel can be a solid (paper, wood, towels), liquid (solvents, gasoline, oil), or gas (flammable gases and vapors).

Fireworks
In accordance with the local amendments to the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, it is illegal to possess, manufacture, store, sell, handle or use fireworks in Chesapeake.

Grilling Safety
Practicing fire safety during grilling is extremely important. As with other types of cooking devices, the leading causes of structure fires involving charcoal-fueled grills are unattended cooking and placing combustibles too close to heat.

Juvenile Firesetters Program
In a typical year, in the United States, 300 people are killed and $300 million dollars in property is destroyed in fires set by children. Children themselves are usually the victims of these fires, accounting for 85 of every 100 lives lost.

It's a high-security box system, designed to securely hold your home's keys. This gives Chesapeake Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians immediate access to your locked residence in the event of an emergency.

Smoke Detector Information
Smoke detectors are required by Chesapeake Fire Prevention in residential occupancies and dwelling units containing sleeping areas in accordance with Statewide Fire Prevention Code, Section 907.2.11.
