Retirement Plan
Planning for your retirement is an important step to help ensure a secure future for you and your family. The City participates in the Virginia Retirement System (VRS). VRS provides several different retirement plans. The plan available to you will depend on your position and/or whether you've had any prior VRS-covered service.
5% of an employee's gross income will be withheld for contribution into VRS, and the City also contributes to VRS for this benefit.

Deferred Compensation
Regular full-time and part-time City employees are eligible to participate in the Mission Square deferred compensation (457) retirement plan. This plan allows employees to set aside a portion of their pay into a retirement account on a pre-tax basis.
