Boards & Commissions
Chesapeake authorities, boards, commissions, and committees are established to advise the City Council and/or to seek public input on a variety of issues in the community. The City's boards and commissions range in purpose from the cultivation of cultural awareness to charting the City's growth and development.

Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is responsible for making recommendations to City Council on all phases of city planning, including preparation and maintenance of a Comprehensive Plan, zoning, use permits, subdivision control, and any other powers and duties provided by General Law and Council action.

Chesapeake Board of Historic & Architecture Review
The Review Board shall assume all obligations and perform all duties assigned to it under Article 12 of the Chesapeake Zoning Ordinance.

South Norfolk Revitalization Commission
The South Norfolk Revitalization Commission (SNRC) shall act in an advisory capacity and make recommendations to City Council in considering issues relating to economic development, historical resources, and other amenities in the South Norfolk Borough and also identifies issues which the Commission feels is most appropriate to foster a rejuvenation of the South Norfolk area.

Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area (CBPA)
Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area (CBPA) Board reviews and makes decisions regarding Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area exceptions, appeals and violations.

Bicycle & Trails Advisory Committee
The Chesapeake Bicycle/Trails Advisory Committee shall act in an advisory capacity to the City Council in carrying out the City trails plan adopted by the City Council, to make recommendations, and such other duties as may be assigned to the committee by City Council.

Chesapeake Historic Preservation Commission
The Historic Preservation Commission shall act in an advisory capacity to City Council and the Planning Commission to implement the Historic Preservation Plan, to maintain and update a list of historic sites in the City, recommend areas, sites, buildings and structures for consideration as local historic districts, develop architectural guidelines for historic buildings and structures which may be recommended to City Council for inclusion in the architectural review standards of the Historic and Cultural Preservation Overlay District.
