Central Fleet Management (CFM) is responsible for the cradle-to-grave management, maintenance, and repair of all vehicles and internal combustion engine powered equipment in the City of Chesapeake.

Central Fleet Management Staff, 2022CFM's new Satellite Maintenance Facility at 3316 S Military Highway is under construction and will be opening during the first quarter of 2023. That facility will be shared with Chesapeake Public Schools for performing school bus maintenance and transportation operations.

The City's fleet of 2,994 vehicles, construction equipment, and lawn and turf equipment travel just shy of 1,000,000 miles each month. Chesapeake has the only municipal fleet in Virginia being powered by gasoline, diesel, compressed natural gas, propane, E85, or electricity. One of the City's compressed natural gas fueling stations is available to the public to purchase CNG through our vendor, Clean Energy. Our public access CNG station is located at 905 Executive Drive and it accepts major credit cards.

Central Fleet Management ranked as the Number 1 Fleet in the 100 Best Fleets in North America in 2017. In 2018 Central Fleet Management was ranked as the Number 4 Fleet in the 50 Leading Fleets. Additionally, along with several other regional and national awards, Central Fleet Management has held the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Blue Seal award since 2009. Only 157 municipal fleets in the USA, and five other fleets in Virginia, have achieved the ASE Blue Seal.

Central Fleet Management's staff consists of 44 Automotive Technicians and 8 administrative staff. Our Parts Department is a contracted operation with Tidewater Fleet Supply, LLC being our vendor.
