The primary traffic control devices in the City include signals, signs, traffic islands, medians and pavement markings.
Traffic signals, stop signs and yield signs are devices that are used to assign the right-of-way for travel efficiency and public safety. Because of this, the maintenance of these devices, done by Traffic Operations, is a priority.
Pavement markings guide the motorist along the roadway. Markings are center lines, edge lines, lane lines, and symbols painted on the pavement.
To report an issue with a traffic control device, contact the Customer Contact Center by visiting Request a City Service or call 757-382-CITY (2489). To report an emergency issue with a traffic signal after hours, call the Police Department non-emergency line, 757-382-6161.
