APPLICANTS NEEDED FOR CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

CHESAPEAKE -- The Chesapeake City Council is seeking residents who may be interested in serving on various boards and commissions. Boards and commissions provide a vital service to various City departments, agencies and City Council.

Citizens wishing to serve must complete an application form. Applications are due in the City Clerk’s office by September 1, 2008. City Council will appoint candidates for these vacancies during its September 23, 2008, meeting.

Applications are currently being accepted for the following Boards and Commissions:

  • Chesapeake Bicycle/Trails Advisory Committee, 1 appointment
  • Chesapeake Community Criminal Justice Board, 1 appointment
  • Chesapeake Historic Preservation Commission, 5 appointments
  • Local Emergency Planning Committee, 2 appointments
  • South Norfolk Revitalization Commission, 1 appointment
  • Transportation Safety Commission, 4 appointments
  • Utility Review Board, 5 appointments
  • Wetlands Board/Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board, 1 appointment

In addition, applications are currently being accepted for the following previously advertised vacancies:

  • Animal Control Advisory Board, 1 appointments
    (Must be a member of the Humane Society)
  • Chesapeake Agricultural Advisory Commission, 3 appointments
  • Chesapeake City Symbol Committee, 8 appointments
  • Chesapeake Commission for the Prevention of AIDS, 4 appointments
    (One applicant must be HIV Positive & one must be a medical professional)
  • Chesapeake Interagency Consortium, 2 appointments
    (One must be a Private Organization Representative & one must be a Parent Representative)
  • Community Services Board, 1 appointment
    (Must be a consumer)
  • Groundwater Committee, 4 appointments
  • South Hampton Roads Disability Services Board, 1 appointment
    (Must be physically impaired)
