CHESAPEAKE AWARDS BIG BIN RECYCLING CONTRACT
CHESAPEAKE - City Manager William Harrell announced this week that the City of Chesapeake has contracted with Tidewater Fibre Corporation (TFC) to implement a big bin recycling program in Chesapeake for $2,146,500.
TFC will handle the collection of recyclables from the City’s 67,500 new big bins, which were purchased from Cascade Cart Solutions for $2,949,795. Delivery of big bins to households began last week and will continue into December.
The City’s expanded recycling program includes:
- paper bags
- glass jars and bottles
- tin or steel cans
- flattened cardboard
- telephone books
- junk mail
- magazines and catalogs
- newspapers and inserts
- office paper and file folders
- aluminum cans
- foil and pie tins
- plastic bottles and containers (#1 and #2)
- cereal boxes
- paper towel rolls
- shredded paper contained in clear plastic bags
All items should be clean with caps removed.
Recyclables will continue to be collected on a bi-weekly basis. Resident’s recycling day will not change. Once the big bin is received, it is ready for use on the next collection cycle. For some Chesapeake residents, that may be as early as tomorrow.
