APPLICANTS NEEDED FOR CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

CHESAPEAKE -- The Chesapeake City Council is seeking residents who may be interested in serving on various boards and commissions. Boards and commissions provide a vital service to various City departments, agencies and City Council.

Citizens wishing to serve must complete an application form. Applications are due in the City Clerk’s office by September 1, 2009. City Council will appoint candidates for these vacancies during its September 22, 2009, meeting.

Applications are currently being accepted for the following Boards and Commissions:

• Chesapeake Agricultural Advisory Commission, 2 appointments
• Chesapeake Bicycle/Trails Advisory Committee, 5 appointments
• Chesapeake City Symbol Committee, 1 appointment
• Chesapeake Commission on Substance Abuse, 1 appointment
• Chesapeake Tourism Advisory Board, 2 appointments
        (One must be a Business Representative and one must be a Restaurant industry Representative)
• Southeastern Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program, 1 appointment
• Transportation Safety Commission, 6 appointments
• Wetlands Board/Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area Board, 2 appointments

In addition, applications are currently being accepted for the following previously advertised vacancies:

• Chesapeake Bicycle/Trails Advisory Committee, 1 appointment
        (Farm Bureau Representative)
• Chesapeake Community Criminal Justice Board, 3 appointments
        (One must be an Attorney)
• Groundwater Committee, 6 appointments
        (Citizens)
