CITY TO HOST GIS DAY

CHESAPEAKE -- The City of Chesapeake will host GIS Day in the lobby of City Hall, 306 Cedar Road, on Wednesday, November 19th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

GIS Day in Chesapeake will offer residents the chance to learn more about how the City uses Geographical Information Systems technology to serve citizens.  These systems bring together various pieces of information to allow users to view, interpret and understand how pieces of data relate to each other.

In Chesapeake, applications include mapping and analysis crucial to many City policy decisions, emergency operations activations, communications, and efficient workflow in City departments.  GIS Day will feature a multi-departmental map gallery, on-going demonstrations, scheduled presentations of GIS use in the City, and a coloring contest for students.  The event flyer is attached.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend to not only cover the event but to also gain a greater understanding of the data available for research.
