CHESAPEAKE TARGETS CRIME PREVENTION IN OHIO STREET CORRIDOR

CHESAPEAKE -- The City of Chesapeake is hosting a community meeting focusing on crime prevention in the Ohio Street corridor of South Norfolk on Monday, November 17, 6:00-8:30 p.m., at Truitt Intermediate School.

The purpose of the meeting is to increase awareness among those living and working in the corridor and to galvanize public/private collaboration to address crime problems. In addition to the entire South Norfolk Historic District, the selective enforcement zone also includes Commerce Street, Hoover Avenue, and Transylvania Avenue.

At the meeting, City officials will inform residents, homeowners and landlords about the number of public safety calls for service; domestic violence complaints; and housing and code compliance inspections and enforcement activities. Other topics will include drug blight, nuisance properties, rental and environment inspections, and affordable housing assets and challenges.

The meeting is supported by the Southside Civic League, South Norfolk Civic League and the South Norfolk Neighborhood Watch in collaboration with Chesapeake’s Police Department, Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, City Attorney’s Office, Office of Neighborhood Coordination, Legal Aid, Code Compliance, Human Services Department, Redevelopment and Housing Authority and Residential Property Management.

For more information or to register, call Sheri Arnold, Senior Neighborhood Resources Specialist, at 963-0945.
