APPLICANTS NEEDED FOR CITY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS

CHESAPEAKE -- The Chesapeake City Council is seeking residents who may be interested in serving on various boards and commissions. Boards and commissions provide a vital service to various City departments, agencies and City Council.

Citizens wishing to serve must complete an application form. Applications are due in the City Clerk’s office by October 1, 2008. City Council will appoint candidates for these vacancies during its October 28, 2008, meeting.

Applications are currently being accepted for the following Boards and Commissions:

• Airport Authority, 1 appointment
• Cable Television Commission, 1 appointment
• Chesapeake Committee on Aging, 5 appointments
• Chesapeake Commission on Substance Abuse, 1 appointment
• Fine Arts Commission, 1 appointment
• Library Board, 2 appointments
• Natural Event Mitigation Advisory Committee, 2 appointments
• Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, 6 appointments
• Planning Commission, 3 appointments
• Stormwater Committee, 1 appointment

In addition, applications are currently being accepted for the following previously advertised vacancies:

• Animal Control Advisory Board, 1 appointments
         (Must be a member of the Humane Society)
• Chesapeake City Symbol Committee, 8 appointments
• Chesapeake Commission for the Prevention of AIDS, 1 appointment
         (Must be HIV Positive)
• Chesapeake Interagency Consortium, 1 appointment
         (Must be a Parent Representative)
• Groundwater Committee, 4 appointments
• South Hampton Roads Disability Services Board, 1 appointment
         (Must be physically impaired)
