CHESAPEAKE NAMED ONE OF MONEY MAGAZINE'S BEST PLACES TO LIVE
CHESAPEAKE – MONEY Magazine has again ranked the City of Chesapeake one of the best places to live in America. Based on their 2008 analysis of more than 716 cities from across the country, MONEY ranked Chesapeake 85 out of the top 100. Chesapeake is the only city in Hampton Roads, and one of six in Virginia, to be recognized. The city was also recognized by MONEY Magazine in 2006.
"For Chesapeake to receive recognition from MONEY as one of America's Best Cities is a true honor," said Mayor Alan P. Krasnoff, "but not a surprise. Residents know that Chesapeake is a great place to live and work, and receiving what I call their ‘good living seal of approval’ will only make it easier to continue attracting new businesses and creating more opportunities for everyone."
MONEY Magazine noted Chesapeake’s low crime rate, dynamic global business community, and location near cultural amenities and the Atlantic Ocean. The City also offers a highly trained workforce, quality schools, and a wealth of natural amenities, such as the Great Dismal Swamp.
To identify the best cities in this study, MONEY Magazine examined those with a population between 50,000 to 300,000. Cities were ranked based on job growth, income increases, cost of living, housing affordability, school quality, arts and leisure options, safety, medical care, diversity and several ease-of-living criteria. The magazine utilized statistics from data provider OnBoard for its analysis.
