CHESAPEAKE TO HOST BUDGET MEETING

CHESAPEAKE- On October 25, the City of Chesapeake will host a public meeting with the Chesapeake City Council, citizens, and City staff to exchange information and ideas about the City’s budget.  A community open house will be held at the Chesapeake Conference Center from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., on Thursday, October 25.  The meeting will be televised on WCTV-48 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Citizens who would like to provide input on the City’s budget priorities and cannot attend the meeting can send input via email to BudgetInfo@CityofChesapeake.net any time between now and 7:30 p.m., October 25th.  The night of the meeting, citizens can call 382-6000 to speak to a City staff member from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  Comments sent via email or telephone will be read to the City Council during the televised meeting, time permitting.

Citizens will find information about the budget on the City’s web site, CityofChesapeake.net, including sources of revenue, how the budget dollars are currently distributed, and past capital and operating budgets. 

The meeting wraps up a month of activities designed to solicit citizen input on budget priorities and educate the public about the choices the City makes when allocating funds.  The month’s events included community meetings, special programming on WCTV-48, and information on the City’s web site, CityofChesapeake.net.  All comments received will be provided to the members of Chesapeake City Council for consideration during their retreat on October 30.

Reporters who wish to interview members of the City Council or staff before the live television program begins will need to arrive at the Conference Center by 6:00 p.m.
