"48NEWS" TAKES NATIONAL AWARD, TOPPING L.A. & MIAMI

CHESAPEAKE - "48News," the original program produced by Chesapeake's Channel WCTV-48, won first place in the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors' (NATOA) Government Programming Awards competition.

In September, "48News" was awarded first place in the "News Series" category for organizations with an operating budget over $300,000. This 30-minute weekly public information/news program competed with cities across the United States in the category of series or compilation programming. The City of Los Angeles and Miami-Dade County took second and third place respectively in this category.

"We are proud of the work that WCTV-48 does in our community," stated Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee, City Manager. "Hopefully, this national recognition will help to highlight the City's fervent efforts to maintain communication with and disseminate information to the citizens of Chesapeake."

Each year, municipalities submit entries to the NATOA Awards to compete in a variety of categories from documentaries to election coverage to public education programs. This year, there were a total of 987 entries.

On Tuesday, September 28, at 6:30 p.m., in the City Council Chamber, the Chesapeake City Council will present this award to the Public Communications Department.
