WCTV-48 NOW AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET

CHESAPEAKE- Beginning at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Chesapeake's municipal cable channel, WCTV-48, will be available on the Internet as part of the City's newly launched, upgraded website, CityOfChesapeake.net. This new service will bring live coverage of City Council, Planning Commission and School Board meetings to anyone with a computer and access to the World Wide Web.

WCTV-48 programming, which will be available 24-hours per day, 7-days per week, includes news, public affairs and informational telecasts produced locally for Chesapeake residents. In addition, WCTV airs a variety of regional and national programs of interest to citizens, along with the Community Bulletin Board, highlighting upcoming events in Chesapeake.

Broadcasting of WCTV-48 on CityOfChesapeake.net is one facet of the City's E-Government initiative. The initiative's goal is to make government accessible to all citizens in the simplest, most user-friendly manner possible.

Since it's launch on July 15, CityofChesapeake.net, with its new design and added features, has generated considerable positive feedback from residents. During the first week, usage of the site increased by 25% over the previous, final week of the City's old site.

"We are extremely excited to be able to bring WCTV-48 programming to the Internet," said Lizz Gunnufsen, Public Communications Coordinator for the City. "Not only can residents see their government in action live, but they can also share all the wonderful things about Chesapeake with their friends around the world. Chesapeake has taken another giant step in joining the global village."

Broadcasts of WCTV-48 programming on the web may be reached by logging on to CityOfChesapeake.net and then selecting WCTV on the home page. For more information about CityOfChesapeake.net or WCTV-48 programming, contact the Public Communications Department at 382-6241.
