Water and Sewer (collection only) Charges for a Typical Residential Meter:

Set-Up fee: $10.00  
Minimum (6 consumptions*) Bi-monthly Water Bill: $35.00
Water Rate per Consumption above Minimum: $3.878
Minimum (6 consumptions*) Bi-Monthly Sewer Bill: $15.90
Sewer Rate per Consumption above Minimum: $2.554
*1 consumption - 748 gallons

Residential meters are read approximately every sixty days and bills cover two months of service.

Hampton Roads Sanitation District - logo graphicHampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD)

Chesapeake Public Utilities will automatically begin an HRSD account with a new water account. HRSD provides sewage treatment and bills customers separately according to water usage. Call 757-460-2491 for concerns about your HRSD bill.

Water Resources

There are three systems within the City:

    1. Northwest River Treatment Plant serving south of Military Highway.

    2. City of Norfolk supply by contract for Indian River and South Norfolk areas.

    3. City of Portsmouth supply by contract for Western Branch and parts of Deep Creek.

Water Conservation

The City is a member of the Hampton Roads Water Efficiency Team - HR WET - promoting conservation by education throughout the region.
