The Special Investigations Section of the Chesapeake Police Department is primarily responsible for drug and vice investigations within the City. This Section conducts training in drug detection and recognition for Uniform Patrol Officers and also conducts any special investigations as directed by the Chief of Police.

The Chesapeake Police Department participates in a regional Federal Drug Task Force (Mid Atlantic OCDETF) by supplying a Special Investigations Detective to this task force. This Detective coordinates any significant local or federal investigation, occurring in Chesapeake, with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Special Investigations Section.

The Special Investigations Section has concurrent jurisdiction and responsibility with the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Commission of reviewing all businesses in the City of Chesapeake applying for an alcoholic beverage license.
