The Emergency Dispatch Center (EDC) or E-911 Center is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for citizens and visitors to the City of Chesapeake, Virginia needing assistance from Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services in emergency and non-emergency situations. Police, Fire or Emergency Medical Services personnel are dispatched and tracked by Emergency Dispatch personnel.

During 2005, the Emergency Dispatch Center processes about 500,000 telephone calls, processed 267,740 entries for police, fire and emergency medical services activities into the computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and dispatched and/or monitored most of the 8,600,000 transmissions sent over the City of Chesapeake's 800MHz radio system.

The computerized aided dispatch system (CAD) allows 9-1-1 communications professionals to efficiently and efficiently monitor the safety of the public and the public safety personnel. The Emergency Dispatch Center and its personnel are partly responsible for the good public image and low crime rate experienced in the City of Chesapeake. The Emergency Dispatch Center may be reached for emergencies by calling 9-1-1 from most any telephone within the City of Chesapeake, VA.
