Why should I volunteer?
Many people volunteer with the City of Chesapeake
for a myriad of different reasons. Many people feel a distinct calling
to give back to their community and take great pride in the City of
Chesapeake. These individuals give of their time unselfishly to make
their city a better place for their family and future generations.
Many volunteer as a way to better their community, while others view volunteerism as a way to better themselves. There are many who opt to volunteer in a certain capacity to explore future career goals or possible changes, while others look for on-the-job experience.
Whatever your motivation, the City of Chesapeake has a wonderful Volunteer opportunity just waiting for you! We invite you to join our team and partner with us to work towards making Chesapeake "The City that Cares."
How can I help during an Emergency?
The images of the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel are still fresh in our minds. The affects on our families, friends and neighbors are the lasting reminder of devastation our community faced. Yet, during that time, hundreds of people and organizations volunteered their time and services to the citizens of Chesapeake and surrounding areas.
Who were the volunteers? Most of them were citizens who simply wanted to do something to help others. They offered to help clean debris from elderly citizens' yards, or operated an ice distribution location.
Hundreds of people came together during the aftermath of the storm to create a network of caring that touched thousands of lives.
We are looking to create a network of citizens like you that want to help should an emergency be declared. With the help of you, your family, your church or temple, and civic league we have the ability to activate a network to help our community should a disaster strike.
Hurricane Isabel taught us the power of our community and the power of volunteerism. Please partner with us as we look to the future not out of fear, but out of a sense of supporting our community.
