Fire Applicants

    Fire Department Frequently Asked Questions:

    • “I took the test in OCT 2006 and participated in the panel interview. I am on the Eligibility List dated March 7, 2007.  When will I hear something?
      • The Eligibility List dated March 7, 2007 expires on March 7, 2008. If you do not hear from CFD before March 7, 2008, you must restart the entire process. The next exam will be advertised on the CLICK system 6 – 8 weeks prior to the exam date. You must resubmit your special Fire Application to the new exam CLICK posting. CLICK “General Applications” are not accepted.
    • “I took the exam in April 2007.  What is my status?
      • The Fire Department will contact you directly for the next step. Keep the Fire Department advised directly of any contact information changes (757-382-6297/6497). If you are placed on the new Eligibility List, your status will be active for one year from the date the Eligibility List is generated. In order to participate in the next exam, you must resubmit your Special Fire application to the new CLICK posting. You will not be personally notified of the next exam date – you must periodically check the CLICK site.
    • “I have never taken or applied to take the exam – when is the next one and what do I need to do?
      • The next exam has not been scheduled. Go to the CLICK site and fill out the special Fire Entrance Exam Application. Once a date has been established, you will receive an email or phone notification of the date. You must then SUBMIT the application to the Exam posting in order to participate. Make sure you keep your contact information updated on the CLICK system.

    Police Applicants

      POLICE ENTRANCE EXAM INFO:

    • The next Police Entrance Exam has been scheduled for September 20, 2008, location: To Be Determined. Report no later than 9 a.m. The Physical Ability Test may be given immediately after the exam (weather permitting). You may fill out the CLICK application and SUBMIT your application to the new posting to receive a confirmation number. You will not receive any additional notification after you receive the confirmation number. It is highly recommended that you make a note of the date, time and location of the exam.

    • December 8, 2007 and March 22, 2008 Examination candidates – please keep your contact information updated. The Police Department (Det. Blount) is the main contact for changes or questions concerning this ongoing process.

    Please note: The Department of Human Resources must be given 48 hours advance notice of any "reasonable accommodations" necessary for testing and/or interviews. Reasonable Accommodation Request forms are available in the Department of Human Resources. EOE
