Therapeutic Recreation Program

Our Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists are dedicated to maintaining an atmosphere which promotes leisure awareness, social interaction, and personal achievement. We hope you will join us in experiencing how recreation can enhance health, independence and quality of life!

Unless otherwise noted target populations for most TR Program activities include: individuals with mild to moderate disabilities in the following categories: Intellectual Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Neurological Disorders, and Physical Disabilities.

Pre-requisites typically include: ability to manage personal belongings with minimal assistance, ability to follow 1 to 2-step directions, ability to use the restroom with minimal assistance, and have a desire to participate.

Advance registration or sign-ups are required for all Therapeutic Recreation Activities.

Program Registration procedures follow those listed in the Leisure Guide and can be completed by mail to the TR Program, in person at any Community Center, or online. Sign-ups are completed by calling the TR Program at (757) 962-5828.

Prior to program registration, all participants must complete the screening process with a CTRS staff member. Download the screening forms and call (757) 962-5828 to set up an appointment to finish the screening process.
