Parks & Recreation Department - Notable Yards 2009

HICKORY
Sandy Ussery
324 Windlesham Drive

Sandy Ussery’s yard is a welcoming area, with colorful tropical-inspired plants and yard accessories (such as flip-flop motif walking stones). Sandy uses her yard much like an “outdoor room”. There are plenty of seating areas, including colorful beach-type wooden chairs in pastel colors, hammock, fire pit, and pond filled with koi. Solar-powered lighting is inviting for night get-togethers. Her large screened porch with adjacent deck—built by her sons Timmy and Taylor--provides more outdoor living space.

Her plantings are healthy, colorful, and lush—including weeping cherry tree, hibiscus, gerbera daisies, snap dragons, iris, azaleas, knockout roses, gara, hydrangeas, oak tree, palms, lantana, black-eyed Susan vine, and much more.

Her vegetable garden is impressive and elegant—with an attractive shed at one end, weed-free thanks to weed cloth, and bordered by knock-out roses. Her vegetables include several varieties of tomatoes, green peppers, squash, and more.
