Parks & Recreation Department - Notable Yards 2007
WESTERN BRANCH. Bernard and Viola Morgan. 3312 Morningside Drive.
Bernard and Viola Morgan are enjoying retirement, using their time to do the gardening that they had yearned to do while working.
They have planted a variety of colorful plants and trees, including impatiens, begonias, lantana, jasmine, clematis, daylilies, roses, sedum, crepe myrtles, calla lilies, cactus, and more. Both whimsical and classical statuary is tastefully tucked throughout the gardens. When one of their big trees was lost because of Hurricane Isabel, they turned it into yard art by painting the tall stump and adding whimsical facial features. Bird feeders and bird baths welcome feathered visitors.
They particularly enjoy spending time in their “outdoor room”, a deck-like area in the back corner of their backyard that is decorated with colorful pots of flowers and plants, porch-style swing, and attractive outdoor furniture.
The Morgans’ care is evident by the beautiful edging and carefully weeded gardens.
