About Us

  • Chesapeake Parks and Recreation Department meets the diverse needs of a growing population with a variety of recreational, social and cultural activities and is responsible for maintaining city-owned open space.

  • A City Council-appointed citizen advisory board helps direct the operation of the recreation, parks, athletics, community center, senior, therapeutics and leisure divisions.

  • Additionally, the grounds maintenance division of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the care, maintenance and beautification of parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields and facilities.

The City of Chesapeake Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to providing a wide variety of healthy, wholesome activities as well as preserving and maintaining the city’s parks, facilities and open spaces.

Mission Values

  • To offer general introductory level recreational programs at a reasonable cost to participants.

  • To create activities that are diverse, educational and fun for all ages.

  • To develop, beautify, preserve and maintain the city’s recreational facilities and parks.

  • To promote community involvement by fostering a citizen friendly volunteer program.

  • To develop opportunities that promote public/private partnerships.

  • The Parks and Recreation staff is committed to providing citizens with quality and timely customer service in a professional manner.
