Meet the Management

Mr. Robert A. Clifton was named Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Chesapeake in October 2002, after serving as acting director since July 2001, when Mrs. Claire R. Askew, with 25 years of service, retired from the city.

Mr. Clifton is an experienced manager with over 45 years of service to the city and is knowledgeable in all areas of Parks and Recreation. Mr. Clifton is responsible for the supervision of 94 full-time employees and over 110 part-time and seasonal employees, as well as being accountable for an annual budget of $7 million. Prior to this assignment and concurrently, Mr. Clifton served as Superintendent of Parks and Grounds, overseeing the maintenance of over 60 parks, over 200 athletic facilities and over 80 municipal building ground sites.
