Fees

Amusement Device Inspection Fees

For issuing each permit, the fee shall be $35.00. In addition to the $35.00 fee for issuing each permit are the following fees:

  1. Kiddie Ride = $15.00
  2. Major Ride = $25.00
  3. Spectacular Ride = $45.00

Electrical Permit Fees

For issuing each permit, the fee shall be $35.00.  In addition to the $35.00 fee for issuing each permit are the following fees:

  1. The minimum electrical permit fee shall be $35.00

  2. Temporary Service: 60 amps and 100 amps - $15.00.

  3. New Service: Fees for new services, whether single- or three-phase, include all circuits, motors, generators and other derivations of an electrical system.

    1. A single-phase fee of $15.00 per 50 amps

    2. A three-phase service fee is $20.00 per 50 amps for the first 1,000 amps and $10.00 per 50 amps for the remaining amps after 1,000.

  4. Changes of Service (old):

    1. Fees for changes of service (pay for change of service and any additional circuits added or worked on) is $7.50 per to amps for single-phase.  For circuit fees, see additions or repairs schedule in section E of this schedule.

    2. Fees for changes of service are $10.00 per 50 amps for three-phase for the first 1,000 amps and $5.00 per 50 amps for the remaining amps after 1,000.

  5. Additions or Repairs; for each piece of equipment connected and for each circuit or feeder installed, extended, relocated or repaired, the fees shall be:

    • Amperes Conductor Size Fee (per circuit)
      0 – 31 #14, 12, 10 $ 3.00
      31 – 60 #8, 4 $ 4.00
      61 – 100 #4, 3, 2 $ 5.00
      101 – 200 #1, 0, 00, 000 $10.00
      Over 200 Over 100 $15.00

    Per meter base = $5.00

  6. Miscellaneous:

    1. Pool equipment inspection - $15.00.

    2. Pool maintenance inspection (Public pools only, once per year) - $15.00.

    3. Pool grounding - $15.00.

    4. Beginning work without a permit - $75.00.

    5. Residential - Temporary release for gas or electrical service - $25.00; Commercial - $50.00.

    6. Reinspection fee - $35.00

    7. Mobile Homes/trailers - See addition or repair schedule and services in Section E.

    8. Early Release Fee - $25.00

Elevator Inspection Fees

Periodic and Annual inspections of all elevators, dumbwaiters, moving stairways, moving walks and man lifts are required to be performed by an approved third party elevator inspector.  Upon presentation of the inspection documents by the third party inspector for the annual inspection, a fee of $35.00 is required.

For the periodic inspections of elevators, dumbwaiters, moving stairways, moving walks and man lifts, the fees shall be $100.00 per annual inspection and $100.00 per periodic inspection.

Landscape/Tree Plan Review

For the review of new one-and two-family dwelling unit site plans, a fee of $5.00 shall be charged at the time of permit issuance.

Plumbing Permit Fees

For issuing each permit, the fee shall be $35.00.  In addition to the fee of $35.00 for issuing each permit are the following fees:

  1. For each plumbing fixture, floor drain or trap, including water and drainage piping, the fee shall be $5.00.
  2. For each sewer line and/or water line, the fee shall be $5.00.
  3. For each sewer line and/or water line having to be replaced, repaired or reconnected, the fee shall be $5.00.
  4. For each roof drain the fee shall be $5.00.
  5. For each new water heater, the fee shall be $5.00.
  6. The minimum plumbing permit fee is $35.00.
  7. Reinspection fee is $35.00.
  8. The fee for beginning work without a permit is $75.00.

Reinspections, Late Charges, Appeals, Certificate of Occupancy and Other Miscellaneous Fees

  1. Reinspection Fee = $35.00
  2. Late charge for beginning work without a permit = $75.00
  3. For each appeal to the board of building code appeals, a fee of $25.00 shall be paid by the appellant.
  4. Certificate of Occupancy
    • For all new buildings, commercial pools, additions and interior alterations, the fee for a certificate of occupancy shall be $30.00.
    • When a certificate of occupancy is requested that is not connected with a building permit, a fee of $20.00 will be charged.
    • When a request is made for the issuance of a duplicate certificate of occupancy that was issued more than 6 months prior or more, a fee of $25.00 shall be charged.
    • When a request is made for a temporary certificate of occupancy, the fee shall be $35.00, which shall be paid at the time of issuance.
  5. There shall be a fee of $50.00 for issuing a temporary release of gas or electricity of all non-residential uses.
  6. Change of Permit Holder: The permit fee for reissuance to a new permit holder in order to complete construction shall be based on the valuation and/or proposed work according to the fee schedule.
  7. Residential Demolition permit require a Rat Free Certificate which is obtained by inspection of the premises by a member of the Neighborhood Inspections Division. A fee of $35.00 is required prior to inspection of the property.
  8. Situations not specified in this fee schedule will be handled on a per-case basis and are subject to the approval of the director of Neighborhood Services.

Rental Inspection Fees

As required by Chapter 14 of the Chesapeake City Code, the following fee shall be required for inspection of rental units in designated "Special Empasis" areas upon change of tenant:

  1. Initial Inspection = $35.00
  2. 1st Reinspection = $10.00
  3. 2nd Inspection = $50.00

Wetlands Board Application Fees

Fees for applications for a hearing before the Wetlands Board are as follows:

  1. Commercial = $250.00
  2. Residential = $125.00
