Landscape and Tree Preservation

The intent of the Chesapeake Landscape Ordinance (Sec 19-600 of the Chesapeake Zoning Ordinance) is to provide minimum standards for preservation, protection and enhancement of the ecologic and aesthetic environment of the City of Chesapeake . The Landscape Ordinance provides requirements for the inclusion of landscape plans with each subdivision, preliminary, or final site plan submitted to the City for approval. The Ordinance provides minimum standards for buffer yards between uses, tree canopy coverage, and open space within parking areas. In addition, a Landscape Specifications Manual has been adopted and made part of the ordinance. A copy of the ordinance and the accompanying specifications manual can be purchased in the City of Chesapeake, Planning Department or downloaded below. The landscape ordinance is administered by the Department of Neighborhood Services.
