Neighborhood Services Department - Neighborhood Inspections

Elevator, Escalator, Moving Walk, Special Hoisting
and Dumbwaiter Inspections

Men waiting for elevator All existing elevators, escalators and dumbwaiters requires an annual inspections and 6-month-routine inspections. The Department of Neighborhood Services has the duty of ensuring that all elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, moving walks and special hoisting and conveying equipment are installed, maintained, altered, operated, inspected and tested in compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. All required inspections and tests shall be made by a certified elevator inspector or designated appointee or by an agency approved by the code official. Where inspections or tests are made by an approved agency, the code official may require the agency to submit a detailed report of the inspection or test to the code compliance division of the department of neighborhood services. Such detailed report shall be made not more than 30 days following the completion of the inspection or test.

Fees:

The annual elevator inspection fee is $100.00.
The periodic elevator inspection (a routine inspection) fee is $100.00
