Code Compliance Division

The Code Compliance Division of Neighborhood Services Department consists of two services:

• Building Construction Section
• Neighborhood Inspections Section

Building Construction Section is required to enforce the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and the Statewide Fire Prevention Code.

The Code Compliance Division, Building Construction Section requires that a building permit be obtained from the Department of Neighborhood Services to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, conver, or demolish any building or structure.

Applications for all permits are filed at the City Hall, 2nd floor, Department of Neighborhood Services, 306 Cedar Road. No construction may commence until the application is approved and fees have been paid. No building or structure can occupied until a certificate of occupancy is issued.
