GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

  1. Develop, improve, maintain, and test emergency plans
    1. Plan meaningful exercises and test capabilities
      1. Regional Hazmat Drill
        1. Plan events early
        2. Include a mass casualty component
        3. Include a criminal component
        4. Incorporate MMRS
      2. Test Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)
      3. Test partnership with military and emergency operation centers
      4. Test the community emergency response team (CERT)
        1. Conduct CERT exercises on a regular basis
        2. Establish leadership and refresher training
    2. Enforce timely exercise feedback
      1. Establish deadlines for reporting results
  2. Ensure emergency preparedness information is user-friendly and available
    1. Improve SARA Title III data
      1. Provide option of automated submission of Tier II information
      2. Install system to ensure timeliness and accuracy of data updates
      3. Continue to develop a GIS layer
      4. Update/scan current information technology
  3. Encourage regional emergency preparedness cooperation
    1. Encourage and develop mutual aid agreements
    2. Support the Regional HazMat Team
    3. Encourage and host regional planning meetings
    4. Plan and conduct regional training exercises
    5. Extend the cooperation across the Virginia/North Carolina border
    6. Support the VDEM Regional Citizen Corps Council quarterly meetings
  4.  Grow the Citizen Corps Council teams
    1. Ensure funding and Support for CCC Programs
    2. Increase public awareness and involvement with the Citizen Corps Council and its programs            
    3. Interface with Citizen Corps Council affiliates
    4. Support organization of VIPS and Fire Corps as Citizen Corps Council programs in Chesapeake
  5. Partner with stakeholders
    1. Engage business, industry, and trade groups
      1. Feed information to partners
      2. Conduct planning with partners
      3. Collect data
    2. Engage military/federal/state stakeholders
    3. Engage faith-based emergency response, civic, scouting, and public service groups
  6. Raise public awareness
    1. Promote mission at speaking engagements, conferences, public events
    2. Maintain a useful website
    3. Aggressively work the media
    4. Distribute information to schools
    5. Design and distribute brochures
