Chesapeake Department of Human Services - Making a Difference in our Community

Is a dynamic facility dedicated to providing secure detention services. Programming includes: educational services, group counseling, medical services, mental health assessments, behavior management, mentorship and recreational activities.

Chesapeake Juvenile Services is a regional facility that services the children of the Cities of Chesapeake, Franklin, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton.

What is Chesapeake Juvenile Services?

Chesapeake Juvenile Services is a safe, secure, place where juveniles between the ages of 8 -18 are housed awaiting court dates and permanent placements by the Court.

 

When may I visit my child?

  • If your last name begins with “A” through “M”, your visiting day is Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and on Sunday from 12:45 p.m. to 1:30 p.m..

  • If your last name begins with “N” through “Z”, your visiting day is Wednesday from
    8:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Is medical care available?

We have medical clinic that is staffed with nurses throughout the week. We also have a medical physician and dentist on call for emergencies.

Residents may use the office phone twice a week to call home. However, they can use the pay phone daily. Also, residents will be allowed to write letters several times a week. These letters will be stamped and mailed by Chesapeake Juvenile Services.

Do the residents attend school?

Residents will be enrolled in our school program, which follows the Chesapeake Public Schools’ calendar.
