Fire Department
Emergency Medical Services
The Chesapeake Fire
Department has provided emergency medical care since the first day the city existed.
Care has evolved from simple transport units with a driver trained in first aid
to a fleet of 10 Advanced Life Support units staffed by Firefighter/Paramedics.
The department also utilizes the Paramedic Engine Company concept on a daily
basis in six locations throughout the city. A trained and equipped paramedic
is assigned to fire engines where ambulance coverage is not assigned. This, along
with three medical supervisors, provides the city with 19 Advanced Life Support
response units 24 hours a day, every day.
