Before the Storm Hits

Individuals, businesses, families and communities can - and do - cope with emergencies. They do so by working together and preparing in advance to meet the threat. A good plan, well thought out before the crisis is upon you, is your best defense.

The keys to planning can be summarized in 3 steps:


1. Learn what threats may affect you

2. Develop a plan to meet those threats

3. Practice your plan and update it regularly

No two groups will have the exact same plan, since everyone's situation is different. The ideas presented on the following pages are meant to be a general, all-encompassing set of suggestions. Pick and choose the ones that meet your needs.

The key thing is - PLAN NOW! When a storm threatens, there may not be time to prepare adequately. Don't be caught short!
