Fire Department
Chesapeake Fire Department Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)
The Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) was developed in 1999 by a joint effort of the International Association of Firefighters and the International Association of Fire Chiefs. This test simulates many of the common tasks performed on the fireground. Each candidate must complete the eight evolutions consecutively within 10 minutes and 20 seconds. Here you can find an introduction and clips of each of the eight events to familiarize yourself with the test. The clips are windows media files, so please make sure you have the latest version of the player installed on your computer. If you have any questions regarding the test process, please contact Captain Mark Edwards at (757) 382-8290.
Training is not everything, it's the ONLY thing!
