The Chesapeake Community Services Board's Mental Health Division provides a continuum of mental health services designed to meet the needs of children, adolescents and adults.
Emergency Services provides screening for commitment related mental health/crisis involuntary hospitalization 24 hours a day. Call 548-7000. Crisis intervention is also provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Services include telephone counseling, face to face assessments, consultations, pre-screening for commitment, voluntary hospitalization and referral sources for persons experiencing mental health problems. Between 8:00pm and 8:30am, the Crisis Center answers calls and refers them to a pre-admission screener.
Outpatient Services offers a varied array of services to the citizens of Chesapeake. Services are typically provided by licensed professional staff licensed by the Department of Health Professionals within the State of Virginia. Call 548-7011 for information on any of these services:
- Intake assessment and referral
- Consultation to individuals and agencies regarding treatment options
- Crisis intervention to adults and children
- Brief Individual/family/marital therapy; children and adults
- Certified Domestic Violence Counseling
- Certified Adult Sex Offender treatment
- Therapy for NGRI (Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity) clients
- Intakes for client's released from the department of corrections
- Forensic evaluations for C&A competency
- Child and Adolescent Case Management Services
- Mental Health & Substance Abuse treatment for juveniles residing at Tidewater Detention Home
- Mental Health assessment and treatment to the Department of Human Services VIEW (Virginia Initiative for Employment not Welfare) program
Medication Management offers evaluation and ongoing assessment regarding the use of mediation for consumers to improve their quality of life in the community. This service is given in conjunction with other MH services. Call 548-7011.
Coastal Clubhouse, a Day Program, provides psychosocial day support to persons experiencing a serious mental illness. Members increase their adaptive behaviors in a natural setting while developing a variety of work readiness skills. Coastal Clubhouse's telephone number is 547-0097.
Resource Management ensures that consumers with a serious mental illness and their families are properly connected to and involve in services designed to maximize opportunities for successful community living. You can reach Resource Management at 548-7011.
Residential Services provides a wide array of living options for persons experiencing mental illness. The goal is to provide optimal living arrangements in the least restrictive setting possible. Options include:Supported Living

Chesapeake Assistance Trust enables families to provide resources for their disabled family member to ensure that needs are met in the years ahead. Families are often concerned about the future of their loved one when they are no longer available to provide support and funds for their needs. This program provides an affordable way for families to provide for this.
