Commissioner of the Revenue - Real Estate Tax Relief for Disabled or Senior Citizens

Message from Ray A. Conner
Commissioner of the Revenue:

I hope this information will help answer the basic questions you might have about real estate tax relief. The City of Chesapeake is to be commended for establishing a very generous program for its disabled and/or senior citizens. In 2008, over 3,400 citizens took advantage of this local program and over $2.7 million dollars in real estate taxes were forever relieved.

Our real estate tax relief program is not a welfare program. It is simply a way in which the City of Chesapeake can help defray living expenses for those qualifying disabled or senior citizen homeowners who have given so much to our community over the years.

If you feel that you meet the basic eligibility requirements of our program, please call one of our four offices listed below to set up a personal appointment.  We are happy to explain to you which documents and information will be necessary to complete the application process.
