Procedure for Processing
Hand Gun Permits

 

Requirements & Procedure:

• Must be a resident of Chesapeake, and

• Be 21 years of age or older, and

• Have a previous Virginia permit, or

• Have valid Virginia Hunting License, or

• Have proof of service in the military, or

• Take NRA Approved Safety Class through a gun shop.

Fees & Costs

• $50.00 FEE--CHECK OR CASH
  Make checks payable to Faye W. Mitchell, Clerk.

• Apply between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

(1) Complete application in the Clerk’s Office of the Circuit Court of Chesapeake.

(ALONG WITH STAMPED ADDRESSED ENVELOPE-IF POSSIBLE)

 

(2) Take completed application to the Chesapeake Police Department for purpose of background check.

 

(3) Upon approval of application, the Court will then mail your permit in the pre- addressed envelope provided.

 

*PURCHASE PERMITS OBTAINED AT POLICE DEPARTMENT*

DURATION OF PERMIT 5 YEARS
