Town Meetings
Town Meetings are an opportunity for City Council Members to receive input and comments from citizens throughout the City regarding concerns, requests, suggestions or observations on the condition and affairs of the City.
Given the size and diversity of the City of Chesapeake, Town Meetings provide a vital forum to allow citizens to take an active role in their local government.

Town Meeting Format
The meetings do not routinely have a specific topic. Discussion is open to whatever areas the attending citizens wish to touch upon. Meetings last for 90 minutes. No minimum quorum of Council Members is required for the meeting.
When and Where are Town Meetings Held?
Town Meetings are typically held on the first Tuesday during the months of February, June, September and December.
- See City Council yearly calendar >>
Town Meetings rotate throughout all areas of the City. They are typically held in public libraries, community centers, public office buildings or schools.
Notice of meeting dates, times and locations is provided, in advance, on the city's website, CityofChesapeake.net, in the Virginian-Pilot clipper, and through signs posted in the area surrounding the meeting site. A complete schedule of town meetings may also be obtained from the City Clerk's Office at (757) 382-6151.
Do My Comments Reach the Right People?
A member of City Council will take notes and prepare a summary of comments for the entire Council. This will also allow for referring requests and comments to the City Manager for appropriate actions.
- See Previous Town Meetings >>
Town Meetings allow citizens to present concerns and express opinions on an individual basis. They are not intended as forums for public debate or City Council deliberations.
- See the full list of contact information for City Council Members.
Who Should Attend?
