Purpose
The Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities serves at the pleasure of the Mayor on matters concerning persons with disabilities in the City of Chesapeake. The Committee was formed in 1982 by Mayor Oman, who felt that Citizens with disabilities in Chesapeake should be involved in the decision making process that affects them.
Membership
The Committee is comprised of a cross-section of the population of the City of Chesapeake. The members of the Committee include persons with disabilities and representatives of various agencies with service responsibilities.
Goal
The Committee is concerned with the quality of life available to citizens with disabilities. The Committee is dedicated to making city and private programs and services accessible to all citizens. To accomplish this task the Committee obtains and provides information to citizens as well as government agencies.
Meetings
The Committee holds open meetings to discuss and resolve problems faced by citizens with disabilities. These meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at City Hall in Chesapeake.
