What are requirements for building a deck?

1. One (1) set of site plans
2. Building plans
   1. Cross Section Layout Plan
   2. Joist Spans and Beams Sizes

Who can apply for a building permit?

The property owner or the builder can apply for a building permit.

 

How much does the permit cost?

• For issuing each permit, the fee shall be $35.00. Additional fees based upon the square footage of the structure.
  • 0-1000 sq. ft., the fee is $6.00 per 100 square feet will be assessed.
  • For 1,000 square feet or more, the fee is $60.00 for the first 100 square feet will be assessed.
• A $5.00 Zoning Review and a $15.00 (0 – 1,999 sq. ft) or a $20.00 (over 2,000 sq. ft) plan review fee are assessed.
• A 1.75-% state levy is assessed to each fee by the State of Virginia.

Do I need other associated permit(s)?

You will need permits if you want to install a jacuzzi, a roof over the deck, or masonry gas grill.
