Chesapeake Task Force on Aging

A non-profit organization dedicated to the well-being and overall concerns of the elderly. Established in 1988, the Chesapeake Task Force on Aging is a group composed of professionals and local citizens interested in promoting personal growth through networking with other individuals in the field of aging. In an effort to identify the needs of the elderly population and investigate new and invigorating ways in which to enrich their lives.

Committee Objectives are:

  • To serve as a coordinating body for various agencies, groups and citizens interested in the older adult.

  • To promote cooperation and communication within the community.

  • Encourage education and understanding of special needs of senior citizens.

  • To act as advocates on behalf of the older adult population

  • Address legislative actions

  • Cultivate public education and awareness programs concerning senior issues and services.

  • Offer an opportunity for networking and resource sharing with members.

Membership:

    Members shall be representatives of agencies or organizations involved in health, social, recreation, education, employment, housing Gerontology or related fields whose purpose is to serve the older adults in society.

Meetings:

    Regular meetings will be held the first Friday of each month at 9:15 A.M. at the Chesapeake Major Hilliard Library (Deep Creek) at 824 Old George Washington Highway, North (757) 382-3610.

Hours are 8:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M., Monday – Friday Twenty different services are offered to provide information and referrals, meals, Transportation, case management, homemakers, geriatric day care, dental care, employment, legal, recreation/socialization and volunteer services to the elderly. Senior Services Of Southeastern Virginia is the first place to call to help older adults remain independent.

TRIAD is an organization composed of police, sheriff and A.A.R.P. representatives. Their commitment is to reduce criminal victimization of the elderly and enhance the delivery of law enforcement services to older persons.

CHESAPEAKE COMMITTEE ON AGING

This committee is appointed by the City Council to include older adults and persons in the human service areas. Membership shall not exceed nine persons.

Committee Objectives Are:

  • To serve the Chesapeake City Council as a coordinating body interested in the affairs of older adults.

  • To promote cooperation and communication among individuals, groups, agencies, and city officials concerned with older adults.

  • To promote education and understanding of the special needs of older adults for individuals, groups, agencies, and city officials involved in the delivery of services to older adults

  • To act as advocates on behalf of older adults for changes in existing services and for innovations as needed.

  • To promote and stimulate political action on behalf of older adults.
